The Ipswich Community House

We are a group of Ipswich artists, civic leaders, and individuals engaged in creating opportunities and environments for the arts and community to thrive in Ipswich.

We are dedicated to providing a vibrant, inclusive place for culture, education, recreation, celebration, and services for all the people of Ipswich, while preserving an architectural treasure.

A Community and Church Effort

The historic Ipswich Methodist Church, which faces Meeting House Green, serves as a nexus of community and artistic expression in partnership with the non-profit Ipswich Community House.

The renovated sanctuary and fellowship hall provide access to all community members, ensuring that the building remains a beacon of inspiration, embracing the town’s history and culture.

The Historic Ipswich Methodist Church

The Ipswich Methodist Society was established in 1824, and the current Methodist Church on Meeting House Green was constructed in 1859. Its steeple is eighteen feet wide at the base and over sixty feet tall, and is visible for some miles out to sea. The steeple appears on the town’s seal, drawn by Ipswich artist Arthur Wesley Dow.
